Speaker of the House Don Scott and Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell Speak on the Importance of Electing Delegate Kannan Srinivasan to Protect Senate Democratic Majority
Ashburn, VA – Today, Speaker Don Scott, Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell, and Delegate Kannan Srinivasan held a press call discussing the critical need for Democrats to hold Senate District 32 and maintain their one-seat Democratic majority. On the call, the Democratic Leaders shared their support of Delegate Srinivasan and why he is the best candidate to win and ensure Virginia Democrats continue protecting reproductive rights, advancing gun violence prevention measures, creating good paying jobs, and defending our democracy.
“We need a democratic majority in the Senate, and that's why we need to elect Kannan. If we lose here, we risk losing the Senate majority and all of the progress that we’ve worked so hard to make and to preserve and protect,” said Speaker of the House Don Scott. “He's the only candidate in this race with a track record, not only in his community doing everyday public service, but in the General Assembly so far. And with this seat, we can make sure that we keep the Senate majority in place and continue to fight for Virginia families.”
"I want to see Kannan elected because he is calm, steady, and experienced,” said Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell. “He is exactly what our caucus needs to help us fight back and maintain our majority and work with the House so we can keep moving forward.”
"I’ve done this work quietly, with determination, by building relationships within my caucus and across the aisle. My focus has always been on results, not on making headlines,” said Delegate Kannan Srinivasan. “I’ve won my last two elections with more than 60% of the vote because I have earned the trust of the voters of Loudoun, who recognize that I represent their values in Richmond and will get things done. With a proven track record of winning elections, I feel confident that I can safely keep this district blue.”
Delegate Kannan Srinivasan, a 25 year Loudoun resident and the first Indian American immigrant to serve in the House of Delegates, represents House District 26. As Delegate, Kannan championed women’s reproductive rights, voting rights, healthcare, and gun violence prevention. He’s now running for Virginia’s 32nd Senate District to ensure Democrats retain their single seat majority and act as a brick wall against the resurgence of Trump-era extremism.
