Delegate Kannan Srinivasan Wins Democratic Primary for SD-32 Special Election
Ashburn, VA – On Saturday evening, the Loudoun County Democratic Committee declared Delegate Kannan Srinivasan the winner in the 32nd District Virginia State Senate Call to Caucus.
“Thank you to the nearly 6,000 voters of Loudoun County who voted today and those who have placed their trust in me,” said Delegate Kannan Srinivasan. “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my wife and rock, Jayashree, for her incredible strength, patience, and unwavering belief in me. This victory would not have been possible without her or the extraordinary efforts of my remarkable staff and volunteers, who poured every ounce of their heart and soul into our campaign.”
“I also want to thank my friend, Congressman-Elect Suhas Subramanyam for his constant leadership and support—I am committed to serving our constituents with equal devotion. I would also like to thank the leaders in the House and Senate for their guidance through this past Session and this campaign.”
“I thank the candidates who ran alongside me in this caucus for showing that there are many different ways to be a leader in our community. We are stronger because of the competition and it is a testament to this district that nearly 6,000 people came to vote on a Saturday on such short notice and so quickly after the last election.”
“Over the past nine days, it has been my privilege and joy to spend every moment connecting with the incredible people of District 32. Each conversation has reminded me of just how great our community is—filled with diverse voices, shared values, and a deep commitment to progress. My passion for service and resolve to give back to this district has only grown stronger. I look forward to delivering on the promises of this campaign in the weeks ahead- to secure a Democratic Majority in the State Senate, listen to the concerns of our community, and continue to be a highly effective legislator who delivers results and keeps Virginia moving forward.”
Delegate Kannan Srinivasan will face Republican Tumay Harding, also nominated on November 16, in a special election set for January 7, 2025. The outcome of this election could determine control of the Virginia State Senate going into the 2025 Legislative Session.
Delegate Kannan Srinivasan, a 25 year Loudoun resident and the first Indian American immigrant to serve in the House of Delegates, represents House District 26. As Delegate, Kannan championed women’s reproductive rights, voting rights, healthcare, and gun violence prevention. He’s now running for Virginia’s 32nd Senate District to ensure Democrats retain their single seat majority and act as a brick wall against the resurgence of Trump-era extremism.
